Cradle of Filth est un groupe de heavy metal symphonique britannique fondé par Darren J. White, Jon Richard, Paul Ryan et Daniel Lloyd Davey, alias Dani Filth. En 1991 Leur genre a évolué au cours de leur carrière, débutant avec du black metal et se dirigeant progressivement vers un style plus gothique et symphonique.

-Biographie:
Dans ses débuts, le groupe change fréquemment de membres et enregistre quatre démos. Cradle of Filth signe avec Cacophonous Records en 1994 et lance The Principle of Evil Made Flesh. Après d'autres changements de line-up, Cradle of Filth lance Dusk and Her Embrace sous le label Music For Nations, album qui a obtenu un certain succès auprès des critiques et augmenté la popularité du groupe à travers l'Europe. Alors que la popularité du groupe grandit, en partie grâce à ses concerts qui deviennent de plus en plus théâtraux, Cruelty and the Beast obtient d'excellentes critiques et se vend à plus de 200 000 exemplaires et d'autres changements de membres s'ensuivent.
Les 2 et 3 avril 2005, le groupe britannique remplit l'Elysée-Montmartre à Paris. Les cameramen pouvant être aperçus sur la scène annoncent la sortie d'un DVD live. Ce dernier s'appelle Peace through superior firepower, contient le concert à Paris, 6 clips et un documentaire sur la vie du groupe (sorti le 21 novembre).
Leur nouvel album, Thornography est sorti le 16 octobre 2006. Cet album marque à nouveau un changement de style musical du groupe. En effet les riffs de guitare ressemblent de plus en plus à des riffs de metal qu'à du blackmetal. Aussi l'utilisation d'orchestre symphonique est moins présente qu'auparavant et aussi les chœurs féminins sont presque inexistants. À noter la présence de l'excellente reprise Temptation changeant complètement le style de Cradle Of Filth.

-La Polémique:

Beaucoup de polémiques tournent autour du groupe, et parmi elles la qualification de leur style musical. Ils sont plus classés dans le genre horror metal symphonique et rejetés par les puristes du black metal. En effet, le black metal est un mouvement musical underground. Le succès commercial de Cradle Of Filth les place totalement à part de ce mouvement "réservé aux initiés" dans la mesure où il a contribué à prostituer et populariser l'image du Black Metal alors qu'à ses origines il apparut comme un courant visant à se démarquer de la scène et de l'idéologie death metal de l'époque, vide et commerciale disait-on. Mais bien entendu, c'est toujours la querelle des groupes dits "commerciaux" ou "non commerciaux".
On peut dire qu'ils ont, à la manière des groupes de hard rock comme AC/DC ou Iron Maiden, extrait des sons qu'ils ont faits leurs. Par exemple, la voix de Dani Filth extrêmement modifiée (extrêmement aiguë ou basse), l'ajout de nappes de synthés inquiétantes, des guitares très distordues et malgré tout ça de la douceur avec des voix féminines.
En tant que leader et chanteur du groupe Cradle of Filth, Dani Filth est le seul membre du groupe qui soit resté depuis les débuts de la formation en 1991. Les anciens membres l'ont accusé de s'être approprié le succès du groupe et de l'avoir considéré comme un projet solo. Son premier groupe se nommait The Lemon Grove Kids. En 2003, il a donné sa voix à un personnage nommé Dominator dans un film d'animation du même nom. Il a aussi été le personnage principal du film "Cradle Of Fear". Ce qui a aussi marqué l'histoire du groupe est ce T-shirt avec l'inscription "Jesus is a cunt" qui a alarmé le Vatican qui l'a qualifié de "sick and offensive" (écoeurant et provocant)[réf. nécessaire]. Le groupe reprendra ce slogan a l'arrière de son DVD "Peace Through Superior Firepower".

Daniel Lloyd Davey (né à Hertford en Angleterre le 25 juillet 1973) est un chanteur Britannique plus connu pour son travail avec le groupe de black metal Cradle of Filth. Il est le plus agé de ses deux sœurs et de son frère, (Amanda, 1975), (Rachel, 1979), (Philip, 1982)

Il est marié à Toni, avec qui il a eu une petite fille: Luna Scarlett (8/2/1999).

Adrian Erlandsson(born October 27, 1970 in Malmö, Sweden)is a prolific Swedish heavy metal drummer, who currently plays in Brujeria, with his wife in Nemhain, and in the German Dark Metal band Samsas Traum. He has also been a member of At the Gates, The Haunted, Cradle of Filth and Needleye.

He was born in Malmö, Sweden on October 27, 1970. Adrien's Younger brother is Daniel Erlandsson, the drummer of Arch Enemy. They both grew up together in Sweden and started playing drums at a very young age, he got his brother into drumming as Daniel admists "If it wasn't for him I probably wouldn't be playing today." He began drumming at the age of eleven when he got his first drum kit, and with friends began playing covers of classic rock songs. They also started playing with their music teacher at school, and eventually began to write their own songs and formed a band.

Erlandsson went on to found Penance, a thrash metal band, which never recorded a demo, although they did record some rehearsal tracks. He then went to University in Gothenburg, where, in 1989, he joined the Swedish death metal band At the Gates. He was the band's drummer until they broke up, and received much critical and fan praise for his speed and precision. Erlandsson, along with bandmates Anders and Jonas Björler, later formed The Haunted with Mary Beats Jane vocalist Peter Dolving. Erlandsson also played in Skitsystem. In 1999, Erlandsson left the band to join Cradle of Filth. It was originally intended that he only record one session with the band; by the time he left the group, however, he had appeared on six of their albums.

In September 2006 Erlandsson played for Brujeria in some concerts in Spain, using the nickname "El Podrido". Erlandsson played with Brujeria while with Needleye, but Needleye disbanded a few months after his arrival to the band in January 2007. After leaving Needleye, he soon became the new drummer for Jed Simon's project Tenet.In 2007 he played drums at the new Samsas Traum album "Heiliges Herz- das Schwert deiner Sonne" ("Holy heart - The sword of your sun") and he is also going to solve some gigs on their upcoming tour. At the moment it is not sure wheather he is only a guest at Samsas Traum, or if he is going to be a real part of the band.

Erlandsson's approach is to focus on the "feeling" rather than technique, however he does incorporate a lot of kickdrumming, occasional blastbeats and sometimes his very own technical odd time signatures.
